Memorial Hospital West Fitness Center
Cardiac & Pulmonary Rehabilitation
Memorial’s cardiac and pulmonary rehabilitation is a highly structured, medically supervised and monitored exercise and instructional program. This program is specifically geared toward those who have heart disease and/or pulmonary disease. It is also ideal for individuals who have suffered a heart attack and/or have undergone open-heart surgery. The classes are designed to restore and maintain your optimal physical, mental, social, vocational and emotional status.
The following are health issues that are included in the program:
- Physical activity
- Nutrition
- Weight management
- Lipid management
- Behavior modification
- Education
- Diabetes management
The classes are three one-hour sessions per week. Our skilled cardiovascular registered nurses and clinical exercise physiologists custom-tailor an exercise program based upon stress test results, medical history, personal needs and individual goals. In addition to having an electrocardiogram performed, your heart rate, blood pressure and oxygen saturation levels (for pulmonary program members) are continuously monitored by our medical professionals during each session. Education plays an essential role in this program; it is achieved primarily through group settings where our knowledgeable staff encourages group interaction. These group settings help participants learn how to lower their risk factors through behavior modification.
Getting Started
Those interested in participating in Memorial’s Cardiac/Pulmonary Rehabilitation Program must receive approval from their physician. Please contact us to schedule an interview with a member of our trained staff. Our staff will review your specific medical history and stress test results so that a rehabilitation program can be customized to address your specific needs. In many cases, the program is covered under your health insurance.
