Balance & Vestibular Rehabilitation
Remember the feeling after spinning around in circles as a child that left you feeling too dizzy to stand? Sometimes as adults, we feel the same sensation as the result of a fall, accident, disease process or no obvious cause. If you are experiencing symptoms of dizziness, lightheadedness, nausea, vomiting, spinning and/or balance problems, you may benefit from physical therapy focused on balance and the vestibular system at Memorial Rehabilitation Centers.
Our physical therapists will assess your vestibular system to determine the best treatment for your specific needs. Rehabilitation may include a variety of exercises with various head, body and eye movements, as well as general balance activities. If appropriate, it may be necessary to provide strengthening, flexibility, coordination and gait (walking) training.
Some common diagnoses for balance and vestibular rehabilitation:
- Benign positional vertigo
- Meniere’s disease
- Vestibular neuritis
- Labyrinthitis
- Acoustic neuroma
- Central disorders as a result of a head injury (falls, accidents, stroke…)
