Body Quest - Initial Evaluation
Before starting the BODY QUEST program, you will be physically evaluated to give trainers a baseline, or starting point, and to help set goals for your 12-week journey. The initial evaluation will include the following:
- Body Composition Measurements are performed using skin-fold calipers. Like circumference measurements, skin-fold testing provides a better gauge of your progress than your weight does. This test indicates the amount of lean muscle mass and body fat you have. Body composition measurements are taken several times during the program and are great motivators.
- Cardiovascular Endurance Test uses a treadmill and electrocardiograph recordings to measure your heart rate during exercise. Blood pressure also will be monitored throughout the test. This information will help your trainer determine safe and appropriate levels of cardiovascular exercise for your program.
- Circumference Measurements are made to provide a better understanding of changes in the size of your chest, waist, hips, arms, legs and other areas of concern. These measurements can be a better indicator of your success than weighing yourself on a scale, especially at the early stages of BODY QUEST.
- Flexibility Measurement Testing helps your trainer identify any range of motion limitations you may have. Improvements in flexibility have shown to be beneficial in reducing injuries, and this test will help your trainer select the appropriate exercises for your program.
- Nutritional Analysis will be conducted by a licensed Registered Dietitian. After an initial meeting, you will complete a nutritional diary for at least 3 days and receive a computerized analysis of the results. After results are analyzed, you will meet again with your dietitian to create a nutritional plan. All nutritional plans will be based on a balanced diet and will not require expensive nutritional supplements.
Additional tests also may be necessary to help you reach your goals. These tests, such as resting metabolic rate measurement and maximal strength testing, will give your trainer more insight about your strengths and challenges. This information will be critical in the continual planning and refinement of your fitness program.
“The BODY QUEST evaluation provides an accurate baseline that allows the fitness team to tailor your individualized workout program for better results,” says Rob Herzog, Director of Memorial Hospital West Fitness & Rehabilitation Center.
